It's a well known fact that at least 50% of marriages end in divorce. Many of these marriages produce children so that means there are a lot of people out there who are single parents. While attention to their children will always be of primary importance to single parents, it doesn't mean that their love life has to be over. Of course, the problem may be that a potential dating partner may not be interested in dating someone who has children. As a result, many single parents may feel they are "out of the game" for a while. This can be even more frustrating for older parents who are in their 40s or 50s as they also feel their age can be a hindrance.
Enter Singleparentlovelife.com (SPLL), a dating site for single parents. I talked with their CEO Mitch Solway from Toronto last week. Mitch has been in the online dating business for over 10 years, so he knows this industry very well and after looking at all the niches, he decided to take on this one and I think it's going to be a winner.
Mitch said that "the internet has its highest value when it delivers an experience." I agree and meeting new people to date has to be one of the more interesting experiences in life. He told me that 1 out of every 4 singles is a parent so that's a significant niche SPLL is aiming at.
Most dating sites are heavily skewed male to female so Mitch wanted to design a site that women would feel comfortable with and I believe he has succeeded. Their home page has that clean, simple, yet inviting design I always look for the first time I land on a new site (only critique-put on text enlarger options for those of us with older eyes). What I think is great is that you can actually browse through the members to get an idea of what kind of people are members. Mitch told me their average age is 37, 40% have never tried online dating, and most are professionals with above average incomes. The cost is a very reasonable $12 per month and there is no hard sell evident like there is on many dating sites. Of course, you need to pay the monthly fee if you want to contact anyone on the site.
The site started charging in Dec 2006 and already has 7,000 members the majority of which are in the greater Toronto area although there are lots of other members across Canada and the US. Mitch said the US market is the next big roll out after they advertise the site to the rest of Canada which they are in the process of doing currently.
So if you are a single parent looking for a love connection, why not click on the graphic below and give SPLL a try.
