I sometimes hear people my age complain about a lack of sleep. For some reason, I have few problems with sleep and so I wondered why I also wasn't experiencing these problems as I age, not that I mind not having sleep problems. Then I read in the New York Times today that pain and illness is a factor in sleeping less and sleeping less then causes more ailments and the longer you sleep, the less sensitive you are to pain. Geez, if that isn't a vicious cycle, I don't know what is.
That's all very interesting but it doesn't really tell us what to do to break that cycle. I guess you just have to stay in good health as you age so you can sleep better, so you can stay in good health etc etc. Hmmm, while I learned something new about the causes, I really didn't learn anything new about how to avoid sleep problems other than stay healthy. Our health declines as we age and all we can do is try to minimize it, easier said then done.
