Music week on the Savvy Boomer

My_music_2 I love music.  I guess it's because I grew up in a musical family and my father was a radio announcer.  Back in the 60s and 70s he used to bring home armfuls of albums that the music labels would give him to play.  I'd listen to all the rock albums and give him advice on which ones to play.  This was before the sophistication of play lists that are chosen by computer specialists in the music industry that exist today. So all week, I am going to post about music and how to listen to it on the internet and where to source mp3s for your computer and/or mp3 player/phone.

I can't survive without music.  It's usually playing on my computer or my mp3 player and I don't even know how to turn off my car radio.  When i lived  abroad
for the last few years, where very little English music was available locally, streaming internet radio stations and my mp3 collection (over 1000 hours-all legal of course) were  my savior.

I loved a site called Pandora which was recently prevented from streaming music outside the U.S. thanks to the RIAA.  Unfortunately, the future of stations like this is questionable so much so that many streaming sites are protesting by turning off their streams tomorrow.  So I suggested that the beauty of the internet is that you can set up anywhere in the world and play music.

Now foreign music sites are starting to come onto North American radar.  The one I have been listening to lately is apparently out of Singapore and is called Soundpedia_2   Today, I noticed that it was slower than usual but then this post over on the 800 pound gorilla TechCrunch hit the net today so I guess the secret is out, which is fine with me as long as their servers can handle the additional traffic.  According to the post, it's legal (who knows?) and it's co-founder is a New York native.  Anyway, check it out, especially if you live outside the U.S.

thanks for the post, we do really like hearing from our users and what they think of us. If you have any questions on the site feel free to contact me anytime. Also, do not worry our current servers will handle a lot of load, and we are adding racks in North America and Europe this summer!
