I watched a local TV news article about 2 weeks ago about a woman who left her cell phone and wallet in her truck while she went for a walk in a park. Bad enough that thieves got her wallet but they also got her cell phone which of course had her home number in it. When they called her home and got no answer, they rushed over to her house and because her house key was in her wallet (geez was she ever asking for trouble), they had easy access. The good news was that her husband was home sleeping and scared them off. That could also have been bad news if they had harmed him. The point is, your cell phone probably contains a lot of data about you which could be harmful in the wrong hands. That's not even considering the fact that a stolen cell phone is going to get used for a lot of calls to anywhere in the world and with new cell phones able to access ATM's, who knows what perils you may face?
This article on Yahoo which explains the other problems in losing your cell phone or getting it stolen gives you a list of 10 steps to cell phone security.

hmm I agree with you.. The closest thing to us is usually the most vulnerable thing as well if it is in the wrong hands. Are we able to get people to be less dependent on the celllphone then?
